Texas Legislative Priorities for ARCIT
ARCIT Capital Visit Summary
“Today, February 13th, the board members of ARCIT had the opportunity to present key rural issues to State Senators and Representatives, reinforcing our role as the Voice of Rural Texas. Discussions covered a range of critical topics, including aging infrastructure, the lengthy grant approval process, the impact of public school vouchers on rural districts, support for rural teacher stipends to attract and retain educators, funding for rural ambulance services, and continued investment in the Rural Law Enforcement Grant.
A major highlight of the day was brainstorming solutions for an emergency infrastructure grant specifically for communities with populations under 10,000. This discussion underscored the commitment of our State Legislators to addressing rural challenges and finding real solutions. Our efforts today demonstrated that Rural Texas is not just part of the state—it is the Real Texas!” - Keith Umphress, ARCIT Board President
Introduction
The Association of Rural Communities in Texas (ARCIT) advocates for policies and programs that enhance the quality of life for rural and small communities across the state. As our board members visit the Texas State Capitol, we aim to ensure that rural Texans have a strong voice in legislative discussions and that policies reflect our communities' unique needs.

Expand access to healthcare services in rural communities, including telemedicine and mental health services.

Support incentives to attract and retain healthcare professionals in rural areas.
4. Education and Public Schools

Conclusion
The rapid growth of urban areas in Texas should not come at the expense of rural communities. A one-size-fits-all approach does not address the unique challenges faced by our members. ARCIT is committed to ensuring the Texas Legislature prioritizes policies that strengthen and sustain rural communities for generations.
I appreciate your support of rural Texas. We look forward to working with legislators to build a stronger future for all Texans.
